Making yourself at home

Making your self at home

Before you move into your home you will have signed a tenancy agreement. If you signed your tenancy agreement before January 1989 you are a secure tenant under the terms of the Housing Act 1985.

Since January 1989 all new tenancies are either assured tenancies or assured short-hold tenancies in accordance with the Housing Act 1988. Assured and

assured short-hold tenancies are enhanced by the Tenants’ Charter.
You can check which type of tenancy you have by looking at your copy of the tenancy agreement. If you are in any doubt you can contact the office. Further information on the different types of tenancy are available in your Tenant’s Handbook.

The Tenants’ Handbook is a comprehensive guide to your tenancy with Spitalfields Housing Association and includes information on Spitalfields HA, Your Tenancy, Repairs and Maintenance, Diagnosing Repairs and DIY, Consulting and Involving Tenants, and Useful Contacts.
