Community Development

Regenerating Communities
Spitalfields Housing Association set up its first dedicated Community Development department in September 2004. The departments mission is to pursue projects which help enhance the social and economic opportunities of the communities we represent.
Staff have been working to implement objectives, based on the local area partnerships neighbourhood renewal objectives. Listed below are some of our projects.
We have developed this web site as part of a training project for 3 Spitalfields H.A residents.
We have raised 37 K from The Veolia Trust and The London Woodland Grant Trust to improve a play facility and community garden.
We have expanded door step re-cycling services to residents and introduced kitchen composting for residents in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council.
We have introduced recycling facilities at our office at 78 Quaker Street.
We have employed a qualified gardener to help lead on better management of open space.
In partnership with the police we have become a supporting organisation to the local Third Party reporting centre to enable victims of ‘hate crime’ to report crimes in a setting with which they are familiar.
We have established an annual Play Day event for residents to enjoy themselves.
We launched a new small grants programme for residents groups designed to help capacity build groups and fund work within the community.
We have embarked on a joint project with Skills Match, Tower Hamlets Job Brokerage initiative to help local people access training and jobs in construction.
We have linked up with Fair Finance to offer in depth Debt Advice to residents facing multiple debt problems.
